“Encyclopedia Americana, known for its scholarly coverage and emphasis on American culture, was first published in 1829. The 2005 edition has 54 new articles, 47 replacement articles, and 186 articles with major revisions. There are also 118 new illustrations and five new maps. Recent historical developments led to major revision of the 300-page article United States, reflected in the "Modern Nation" and "International Relations and Diplomacy" sections. In the international arena, the article Saudi Arabia has been replaced and has a new map and color illustrations. Other articles related to the Middle East Algeria, Iraq, Israel, and Libya have been revised, too. New entries include Biometry and Biometrics; Department store; E-mail; Kerry, John Forbes; Mengele, Josef; Ondaatje, Michael, O'Neal, Shaquille; and Richler, Mordecai. Replacement articles and major revisions include Beirut, Caribbean community, Deportation, Election, Video game, and Work (physics). More than 40 individuals have been added to the roster of contributors. Encyclopedia Americana is an excellent resource for high school, public, and academic libraries.”- Booklist, September 15, 2005
“Hundreds of experts have contributed to this encyclopedia over the years, which boast 45,000 entries to date. The entries are both authoritative and objective and it is obvious there is collaboration between the editors and the experts as the reviews are written in an easy-to-understand language. Articles that have been updated by the editors of the publication have an asterisk by the author's name.”- American Reference Books Annual, March 01, 2005
