William H. Rehnquist has had one of the most distinguished legal careers of the past century. After serving in World War II, Rehnquist completed a law degree at Stanford University and was selected to serve as a clerk for the Supreme Court under Justice Robert H. Jackson. Rehnquist returned to the court later in his career after being appointed associate justice and, later, chief justice. During his more than 30 years on the court, Rehnquist has decided some of its landmark cases, including Roe v. Wade and Bush v. Gore.
