Review:

"The World Book Encyclopedia continues its tradition of being current, accessible, and well illustrated. The 2006 print edition has 70 new articles. They include Arab Americans, Avian influenza, Digital video recorder, Eating disorder, Gullah, and No Child Left Behind Act. Arab Americans has a map and chart of the ethnic backgrounds of the Arabs who live in the U.S. Benedict XIV, Alberto Gonzales, Mia Hamm, and Barack Obama are among the people -covered in new biographical entries. A number of topics, among them My Lai massacre, Napoleonic Wars, and Viet Cong, previously treated within other entries, now have entries of their own, providing students with a more direct route to information. Some 213 articles have been extensively revised or rewritten. These include Africa, Bilingual education, College entrance examination, and Diabetes. Entries on several topics students may be looking up for school assignments, such as Capital punishment and Stem cells, have been expanded as well as updated...

Some statistical information is updated annually, making World Book Encyclopedia a good source of information on topics such as sports winners and key economic indicators. The "Research Guide" in volume 22, with sections on speaking, writing, and doing research, is useful for students who need help organizing a project.
Offering high-quality information in an attractive package, The World Book Encyclopedia is a first choice for libraries, schools, and homes. Because it is intended to meet the needs of a wide range of users, from the upper--elementary to adult level, it is an economical "all-purpose" tool." Booklist, September 15, 2006.
